1. We are experienced language teachers ourselves.


We founded Acorn after hosting and teaching many English language students in our own home. We also realised we could draw on our years of experience teaching at home and in state and private schools to improve on the service provided by other schools.

Our inside knowledge of homestay tuition means we know what it takes to deliver fantastic service, higher quality teaching and truly great language courses.

2. We bring this inside knowledge to everything we do.


We really understand every part of the student experience, from the way we prepare students for their time overseas and check-in on them once they are here, through to the way we recruit and train our teachers, the way we ensure our courses are academically powerful, and the way we are constantly looking to improve the way we work. And our courses get better every year.

3. We are very hands-on, proactive and responsive.


Students work with us at the highest level and know that if there is anything they need to discuss, there will be a friendly voice on the end of the phone waiting to help them straight away.

4. We only work with a very select group of tutors in key locations.


Unlike many homestay providers, we avoid having a huge team that sprawls across the UK. We know every single teacher personally: we keep in touch, we visit, we observe them in person, in action, we talk to them about what they need to improve their professional practice, and we organise training days and social events that build a sense of cohesion and collegiate support.

The personal relationship we have with each member of our teaching team means we can match students very carefully with teachers who will maximise their study experience. We don’t send out group emails, allocating students on a first come first serve basis: this is anathema to us. Instead we take the time to ensure they stay with a teacher who is really going to cater to the individual needs of the student. This way, students keep coming back and they recommend us to their friends, families and colleagues.

This highly personalised, expert service means that Acorn English Homestay does not pay lip service to the idea of tailor-made courses. A bespoke service sits at the very heart of our business and this is reflected in our students’ feedback, which is consistently excellent. Our fees are no higher than the majority of our competitors, indeed in some cases they are considerably lower. We offer a truly person-centred approach that sets our courses apart and means they are exceptionally good value.
